Loving Seasonal

In Canberra, we are so lucky to have four distinct seasons where a huge variety of fruit and vegetables can be grown and harvested from our local gardens. At FoodLovers we pride ourselves on our ability to take excess (or glut) products from local gardens and turn them into something amazing.

It has become increasingly difficult in recent years to be able to eat local Aussie fruit and vegetables because imported produce from all over the world makes it possible to eat cherries in the middle of winter!

So let’s break down the seasons in Canberra and look at what’s truly available at a local level.

Cherries, nectarine, peaches, strawberries, orange, lemon, mandarin

Apricot, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, melons, nectarine, peach, plum, fig, beetroot, capsicum, chilli, cucumber, eggplant

Apples, crabapples, medlar, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, kiwifruit, pear, persimmons, quince, capsicum, chilli

Lemons, mandarin, orange (including Seville variety), rhubarb

Of course, there are many other fruits and vegetables available, but these are the ones that are used fairly extensively at FoodLovers.

If you have a garden that produces prolifically and don’t know what to do with the fruit, please give us a ring and we will see what we can do.
